What is Tao Functional Health and how is it different?

Tao Functional Health takes a physician-led, systems approach to understanding your health. Rather than looking at symptoms in isolation, we take time to explore your health history, previous investigations, current concerns and the wider factors that may be influencing how you feel.

The aim is to identify meaningful patterns and connections, establish clear priorities and develop practical next steps. The approach is evidence-based and personalised, and is designed to complement—not replace—your existing medical care.

What kinds of health concerns do you commonly work with?

People often come to Tao with concerns such as persistent fatigue, poor or unrefreshing sleep, changes in weight or metabolic health, brain fog, digestive symptoms, stress-related symptoms or a general sense that their health has changed.

Rather than treating these as isolated problems, we look at the broader pattern and consider how factors such as sleep, metabolism, nutrition, stress, recovery and ageing may be interacting. The aim is to understand what deserves attention and identify practical next steps.

What if my routine tests are normal but I still don’t feel well?

This is a common reason people come to Tao. Routine tests can be reassuring, but they do not always explain persistent symptoms such as fatigue, poor sleep, brain fog, digestive changes or reduced resilience.

We take a broader look at your health history, symptoms, previous results and how different factors may be interacting. The goal is not simply to order more tests, but to understand the overall pattern and determine what may be worth exploring further.

What is the Health Clarity Call?

The Health Clarity Call is a complimentary 15-minute conversation to briefly discuss what has been changing in your health and what you are hoping to understand.

It is an opportunity to ask questions about Tao Functional Health, learn how the process works, and determine whether a Comprehensive Health Assessment may be an appropriate next step.

What happens during the Comprehensive Health Assessment?

The Comprehensive Health Assessment is a 90-minute, physician-led consultation. We explore your health history, current concerns, previous investigations, lifestyle and how your health may have changed over time.

The aim is to understand the broader picture, identify meaningful patterns and connections, establish clear priorities and develop practical next steps.

Will I need additional laboratory testing?

Not always. Additional testing is considered only when it is likely to provide useful information and influence what we do next. We first review your health history, symptoms and any relevant existing results. Where further investigation may be helpful, we can discuss what is appropriate and why, rather than ordering tests simply for the sake of testing.

What happens after the assessment?

For some people, the Comprehensive Health Assessment may provide enough clarity to move forward independently. Others may benefit from more structured support.

Where appropriate, we can discuss the Tao 3-Month Programme, which provides five follow-up consultations, personalised recommendations, review of relevant results and email support between sessions.

Does Tao Functional Health replace my family doctor or specialist?

No. Tao Functional Health is designed to complement, not replace, your existing medical care.

You should continue to see your family doctor and any specialists involved in your care. Where appropriate, the work we do at Tao can help you better understand your health, identify priorities and support a more comprehensive approach alongside your existing medical care.
